I believe in respecting the player which means I use every tool available to make the game look good. I noticed our skirts were looking very bright on the underside because the lighting in our game did not shade it as players would expect. I suggested a solution to the engineers and they were able to get me a 2 sided lighting solution to a planar mesh with a nice falloff which was based on their distance to the ground. So when the characters jumped the undersides of the skirts got darker. This solution imitated the bounced light of the ground very well.
