On a recent visit to my home town of Salt Lake City, together with my good buddy Brian, we were privileged to visit Nathan Florence, a professional fine artist, in his art studio.
Nathan is a true “artist” with a voice and vision. I first met Nathan at a viewing of the documentary he is creating called Art & Belief which will be submitted to Sundance this year. The documentary is about the story of a group of Mormon Artists including Trevor Southey, who believed that Mormonism and world-class fine art were not mutually exclusive. In the late 1960s, these artists and their family created an intentional community in Alpine, Utah, and boldly created wonderful works of art in various media.
Getting to know Nathan was wonderful and it turns out he lives just a block away from my childhood home in Salt Lake City, near Liberty Park. Visiting his studio was a touching walk down memory lane as I walked the streets of my childhood. It was an epic visit with an inspiring and soulful guy.
